Summer Study in Austria and Germany

Salzburg’s Beautiful Old City and Fortress

Experience Austria & Germany in Summer 2009!

Mount Union College is offering a unique and affordable option for students to visit Austria & Germany and to earn MUC credit. High school students who are at least 16 years old and who have studied German for two years are eligible to participate.   The program’s tour leaders have many years of experience leading student tours and have developed this program in order to provide participants with an academic and enjoyable learning experience. Unlike most programs, which are expensive and have hundreds of dollars of hidden costs, the MUC program includes excursions, guided tours and  college credit.  Included as part of the study-tour package are:

v  Group travel to/from Austria/Germany.

v  Local transportation to cities and cultural sites listed on the itinerary.

v  Breakfasts and one meal daily.

v  Housing in double-rooms in small tourist inns and hotels.

v  Admission to museums and cultural venues listed on the itinerary.

v  Bi-lingual program leaders who are very knowledgeable about the cultures of Germany  and Austria.

v  Plenty of free time to shop, visit and explore your own interests.

v  The option to earn transferable college credit. Program courses can be used to fulfill MUC GenEd requirements.

Munich’s  City Hall & Cathedral

Which cities will we visit, and what’s on the itinerary?

v  Our program begins in Munich, Germany, where we will spend the first two nights.  Munich is one of Germany’s most cosmopolitan cities with many historical sites and modern attractions.

v  From Munich we travel to Grödig, a village located at the foot of the Unterberg mountain  which provides easy access to all Salzburg has to offer.  In Salzburg you will visit the fortress, the cathedral, and the Altstadt – or Old City which dates back over 1,000 years. Rather than sit in a school building every day, Salzburg will be our classroom, and you will come to know the city in a way no tourist can!

v  From Salzburg we will take excursions to the Lake District,  Berchtesgaden and Königsee Lake – all at no additional charge!

v  From Salzburg we travel along the Danube Valley to Vienna.  We will stop en route at Melk Abbey, a center of learning since the Middle Ages.  We will tour the monastery church and  library before we continue on to Vienna, Austria’s largest city.  Once the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Vienna is one of the world’s most beautiful cities, home to St. Stephens Cathedral and Schönbrunn Palace.

v  During our stay in Vienna, we will cruise down the Danube river to Bratislava, the capital of the Slovakia.  Although Bratislava is Europe’s “newest” capital, the city dates back centuries.
